Data Integrity
It is essential that aeronautical data integrity is maintained from initial creation through to final use. Studies have shown that this is not always the case.
Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions traditionally has operated at the forefront of initiatives to improve the quality of aeronautical information. From development of EUROCONTROL's Data Quality Tool Set (DQTS) through to support to the EUROCONTROL Integrated Briefing project, Data Integrity is no exception.
Through various projects, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has undertaken the following work:
- Provided design and execution support for EUROCONTROL's Data Integrity Workshop which discussed the future needs for integrity and how they may be achieved.
- Developed the Data Integrity Tool prototype, a proof of concept to demonstrate that information may be passed from client to client electronically, automatically carrying out integrity checks.
- Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is currently developing the successor to the Data Integrity Tool
prototype. This will provide a more flexible and robust tool.
- Data is passed between clients using the AIXM exchange format, based upon XML.
- All communications are encrypted, thus ensuring secure communication.
- Non-repudiation to ensure that data is only received from authorised clients.
- All transactions are protected through use of CRC checking, ensuring that the data received by a client has not been corrupted during transfer.
- EUROCONTROL is currently assessing options for improving the integrity of data from original survey to final use. These options include improved training and, if deemed necessary, regulation. Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is providing primary support to this project.
