Test Planning

Describes the test activities, methods to be employed and the organisation to be used. Provides a high-level view of all test activities.

During this activity the various test phases will be identified and planned at a high-level, e.g.:

  • Development Testing
  • Validation
  • Factory Acceptance
  • Site Acceptance

The test plan identifies how the remaining test activities will be carried out to:

  • Identify what testing techniques / tools will be used
  • What test environment will be used
  • Plan how traceability of requirements testing is ensured
  • Establish what and where test data will be needed

With significant experience undertaking test planning, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions Independent Test Services is able to assist, or undertake, your test planning activities.

Test Specification

Defines in detail the actual test to be carried out for each requirement and provides the expected result.

This phase details the actual test to be carried out to ensure that the system complies with its requirements.

A test specification analyses the requirements and organises them into a logical sequence of tests.

Will consist of step-by-step actions to be carried out by the tester, detailing the exact result expected.

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is available to carry out all aspects of test specification using our in-house test service.

Acceptance Planning

Planning how it will be proved that the system meets the requirements identified to the satisfaction of EUROCONTROL.

Further Details >>>

Before a client is able to connect their system to the EAD, it must be accepted by EUROCONTROL. This validation must be carried out using the Validation Suite.

Key activities supporting this acceptance are:

  • Identification of Acceptance Tests
  • Generation of Acceptance Plan
  • Approval of Acceptance Plan by EUROCONTROL
  • Test Readiness Review

Without acceptance of your system, EUROCONTROL will not permit your connection to EAD – Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions will work with you to ensure acceptance is obtained.

Validation Suite

Identifying how the system will be proven against the Validation Suite generated by EUROCONTROL before connection to the live EAD system.

The EUROCONTROL Validation Suite allows an ESI connection to be simulated. Before an organisation's system may be connected to EAD it must prove that it functions correctly against this test suite.

In order to use the Validation Suite the client must:

  • Plan which EAD functionalities are to be tested
  • Generate electronic test scripts that are used to drive the test suite
  • Design transaction threads to ensure that the complete sequence of events is tested
  • Undertake both positive and negative testing to ensure that their system handles both expected and unexpected responses

Whatever your requirement, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions staff are available to assist with use of the Validation Suite.

Test Execution

The physical execution of the tests identified in the Test Specification in a controlled and organised environment.

At this stage, tests which have been documented in the test specifications are executed.

Where the test outcome does not match the expected result, a test observation must be recorded.

The running of tests can be a long and time consuming activity with a need for great attention to detail.

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is able to undertake this labour intensive task work on behalf of clients, either at their premises or through use of our own test facility which allows us to replicate a wide range of environments.

Test Reporting

Provides evidence of test execution, detailing the tests that have passed or failed along with test observations. This may be used to provide proof of system readiness.

The test report provides a record of the test execution phase. It details the outcome of the testing defined by the test specification.

Any observations raised during the testing are identified and the overall status of the test recorded.

This report may be used to record that the system is acceptable to progress to the next project phase.

Test reporting should be carried out by whoever performs the test execution – Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions being available to carry out both activities.

Fault Management and Co-ordination

The assessment of Test Observations to establish their impact and the priority for correction. The tracking of observations through to closure.

Following test execution a number of test observations may have been recorded. These must be:

  • Assessed
  • Categorised, to assign:
    • A priority (e.g. Critical, Essential or Cosmetic)
    • A classification – area in need of correction, e.g.:
      • Requirements
      • Software
      • Test Specification
  • Monitored
  • Re-tested at the appropriate time to check fault clearance

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions’ test service available to undertake Fault Management on your behalf or to advise as necessary.
