Benefits of Crisis Management Exercising

The group managing an incident will be of a temporary composition and will be needed for a relatively short time. The crisis will reach a peak and then feather into a recovery phase, which will in turn feather into a "business as usual" phase, requiring less intense support.

Crisis handling group attributes are very important. We encourage all of the positive features for the people involved including the following:

  • Deciding clear objectives
  • Maximising their relevant skills such as:
    • Leadership
    • Communications
    • Negotiation
    • Accommodation of less suitable members into the group
    • Technical and managerial expertise
    • Coping with pressure

However good a group may be, it will still have some negative features. Our staff are experienced in minimising these negative features, and even in turning them around for the benefit of the group. They may include:

  • Goal displacement
  • Inappropriate skills
  • Too much attention to political aspects of the business

A post exercise report is always provided and we will attempt to give the best possible advice at all points. We will not hold back information and will not attempt to confuse or mystify the audience with convoluted language or ideas.

We will also examine and advise on the HR aspects of Crisis Management. The HR department should have been involved in the compilation of any BCPs in areas that will include staff support and possible counselling, both short and long term.
