The Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions Platform Integration Team provides technical, operational and programmatic support to customers acquiring Tactical Information Exchange or Voice/Data communications capabilities for military platforms, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets (E-3D/E-3A, Airborne Stand Off Radar (ASTOR), Nimrod R), weapons platforms (F-16, JSF, Typhoon, AH64) and support platforms (A400M, C‑130, Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA)).

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions, in accordance with UK and US Policy, advocates the interoperable Systems Management and Requirements Transformation (iSMART) Process. Whereas conventional system design and development predominantly focuses on single platform aspects, iSMART embraces interoperability aspects beginning from project initiation and continuing throughout a platform’s life cycle. The process assists in identification and correction of oversights and design errors prior to in-service dates, resulting not only in a more cost-effective but also a more interoperable solution. Moreover, because of iSMART’s holistic and integrated approach to interoperability, new capabilities can easily be added.
Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is a key member of numerous communication integration programmes for the UK MOD and many foreign Defence Ministries, either directly, or through participation with international companies. Our support ranges from requirements capture for host systems, data link processing subsystems or data terminal equipment, terminal-host interfaces, Human Computer Interfaces and various peripheral equipment, to the development of software requirement specifications and test procedures, scenarios and data analysis.

Our consultants have extensive experience in assisting Customers to integrate voice and data communication systems into a range of military platforms, examples of which are below.
UK Platform Integration customer base
Tornado GR4 for TDL IPT - Support to the IPT during the Assessment phase for the procurement of a JTIDS/Link 16 capability for the Tornado GR4. We have also provided consultancy on proposals for a VMF capability and are assisting with the Integrated Test, Evaluation & Acceptance Planning process. In addition we have provided iSMART documentation.
Typhoon for Typhoon IPT - Total technical support package for MIDS/Link 16 covering requirements, HCI, IO assurance, iSMART, qualification, verification, acceptance, IDPF, in service support, trials analysis and standards.
Harrier GR4/GR9 for TDL IPT - Support to the IPT during the Assessment phase for the procurement of a JTIDS/Link 16 capability for the Harrier GR9. We have also provided consultancy on proposals for a VMF capability and are assisting with the Integrated Test, Evaluation & Acceptance Planning process. In addition we have provided iSMART documentation.
Sentry E3D for Sentry IPT - Support to the Interoperability Assurance process for the E-3D using elements of the iSMART process. Provision of support to the in service software support team at RAF Waddington in all functional aspects of the Mission System software and HMI.
Merlin for Lockheed Martin - Currently providing Subject Matter Expertise to Lockheed Martin during the development of a proposal to use the MERLIN helicopter to fulfil the RN, carrier based, Maritime Surveillance and Control capability.
Tornado F3 for Tornado IPT - Technical support to the Tornado IPT on F3 JTIDS/Link 16. Full through life support from specification production through to test data analysis. Current activity includes support to the introduction of the final JTIDS software load into service. Support has also been provided directly to the operational community (Station JTIDS Officers).
Sea King ASaC for TDL and SKW IPT - Provision of technical support to the Sea King IPT. Involves ongoing assessment of Data Link Change Proposals for updates to the platform baseline documentation set. Also involved in the support to QinetiQ for ongoing Military Aircraft Release trials for bi-annual software upgrades.
Astor for Astor IPT - Support to the ASTOR programme development to facilitate its introduction into service. Current work includes the development of iSMART documentation and an impact assessment resulting from migration to MIL STD 6016C. Core tasking also includes ongoing interoperability assurance for the Link 16 implementation and support to the introduction to service of the platform.
A400M for TDL and A400M IPT - Provision of technical support for Link 16 integration onto the A400M. To date, the company has produced iSMART documentation, as well as an Initialisation Data Preparation Facility (IDPF) Specification. In addition, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has provided extensive SME input to the development of the contractual Link 16 specification.
Project Eagle for Sentry IPT - Provision of support on an ‘as required’ basis for the LM bid for project Eagle, the mid-life upgrade to the E-3D mission system.
FSTA for IA and FSTA IPT - Production of the Link 16 Requirements Specification via the iSMART process. Support to the FSTA IPT in their review of FSTA Link 16 Interoperability Design Specification (IDS) documents provided by the prime contractor.
Nimrod R for TDL IPT - Full spectrum of technical support to the integration of Link 16 on the platform. Includes the production and maintenance of TULIP/iSMART documentation, support to HMI development, terminal integration support, test script production and provision of advice for the development of the 1553 interface.
Europe Platform Integration customer base
Dutch C130 and KDC10 for Dutch MOD - Provision of technical Link 16 support to the RNLAF C-130 and KDC-10 Type Offices during the procurement of a Link 16 capability for both of these platforms. To date, the project has included provision of requirements documentation, and also the technical review of material from the prime integrator. Frequent support at meetings between the RNLAF and the platform integrators has also been provided.
C130J for RDAF AMC - Provision of technical support to the international C-130J programme. Air Materiel Command has contracted Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions support on behalf of the wider C-130J user group. Support includes the production of iSMART documentation and SME input to prime contractor (LM Aero) meetings.
MASE for RDAF AMC - Provision of technical support to Danish integration of Link 16 into the Multi-Aegis Site Emulator (MASE) for the static CRC. To date, the company has provided iSMART documentation for the Link 16 element of the system.
FLORAKO for Swiss DPA - Currently providing extensive Technical support during the design phase of the replacement Ground Based air defence system in Switzerland. The company has been involved since the requirements definition phase and have provided on-site SME support to the procurement team in Fullerton, California.
Dutch F16 for Netherlands DLO - The Netherlands DLO is currently applying the iSMART process to many of their Link 16 equipped platforms. As part of this task, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is currently undertaking an Interoperability Evaluation of the F-16 implementation against a number of other Dutch and NATO platforms.
NATO E3A for NAPMA - Support to the interoperability assurance of the NATO E-3A using elements of the iSMART process. Also provided subject matter expertise support to the development of the NATO Midterm Link 16 solution.
JSF for Netherlands DLO - The Netherlands DLO is currently applying the iSMART process to many of their Link 16 equipped platforms. As part of this task, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is currently undertaking an Interoperability Evaluation of the proposed JSF implementation against a number of other Dutch and NATO platforms.
Norwegian F16 for Norwegian DLO - Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has generated and now maintains iSMART documentation for the Norwegian F-16 program, and provides technical advice regarding future Link 16 upgrades.
CiOP - Provision of consultancy support to the FMV (Swedish Defence Material Administration) and the HKV (Swedish Armed Forces HQ) in terms of both the education and application of the Coalition Interoperability Study (CiOP). CiOP is specific to all Swedish Armed Forces' platforms and covers all activities that are deemed necessary to ensure that interoperability is considered through life. The CIOP approach is based on several key processes included iSMART, and the development of Enterprise Architecture. Provision of acquisition & technical support to FMV during procurement of Tactical Information Exchange Comms Media, such as MIDS/Link 16.
Australasia Platform Integration customer base
Australian AEW&C for Australian Defence Force - Provision of through life technical support to the procurement of Wedgetail. Production of the Link 16 Specification via the iSMART process and initial Interoperability Evaluation. Currently conducting a review of the Tactical Data Link Human Machine Interface (HMI) and providing Subject Matter Expertise support to the system testing activity.
